First Lesson in English

Lesson 1

It is interesting to note that the beginning and ending pages of the Bible refer to the Holy Spirit of God. He participated in the creation:
«He moved upon the waters» Genesis 1: 2

At the end of the Bible, we see that the same Spirit and the Bride say:
«Come» Revelation 22:17

God gave us our own great treasures. The Holy Spirit, who knows these treasures, desires to show them to us. And now we have the privilege and honor to possess these treasures and enjoy them.

1. Read 1 Corinthians 12
• What appears to be the theme of this chapter?
• What appears to be the desires of Apostle Paul?
• Who gives the gifts?
• Who receives the gifts?
• For what are the gifts given?
• When are the gifts given and received?
• How are the gifts given?
• Why did the Apostle Paul choose to compare the church with a body?

2. Examine the Word
• Gifts- 1 Corinthians 12: 4
• Spiritual- 1 Corinthians 12: 1
• Varieties (Different)- 1 Corinthians 12: 4
• Dividing- 1 Corinthians 12: 11
• Ministries (Service)- 1 Corinthians 12: 5
• Effects (Works)- 1 Corinthians 12: 6
• Manifestation- 1 Corinthians 12: 7
• Works- 1 Corinthians 12: 11
• Individually- 1 Corinthians 12: 11
• Division- 1 Corinthians 12: 25
• Covet (Earnestly Desire)- 1 Corinthians 12: 31

Now reread 1 Corinthians 12, substituting the discovered meaning of the words in the text, and see whether or not it gives you a deeper understanding of what God is saying to us through the Apostle Paul.

3. Attentively read 1 Corinthians 12: 4-6 and note the passage about the «Spirit», «Lord» and «God». What do you think?

For what specific reason does the passage (1 Corinthians 12: 4-6) speak about the Holy Trinity [Triune God]? There is something special here. What is God trying to tell His people in this passage?

Does God repeat one and the same truths in verses 4, 5, 6? What is he teaching us in this passage?

What do you think? What ideas concerning the spiritual gifts is Apostle Paul trying to formulate in 1 Corinthians 12? How does he formulate these ideas?

Application:

How can you apply in your own life what you have learned in response to the previous questions?

Teaser for the next lesson:
God gave us the gifts through the Holy Spirit.
For what reason are they necessary?
«Scripture interprets Scripture» Read Romans 12:1-8 and 1 Peter 4:7-11

  1. Hello everybody! Congratulations with the first lesson in English. It was wonderful.
I would be happy if we use the New International Version instead of New American. (The book is to heavy to bring it every Sunday)
    Blessings, Nadezhda

  2. This is a great idea, Nadezhda! Unfortunately, we only have access to the Russian/English New Testaments in New American Version. If you want to use your NIV, that would be fine. Or you could leave a copy of your Russian/English at the church in the box to use only on Sundays as well. Thanks for the great comment.
    In Him,
    Buck
