Lesson 7
Theme:
• Helps
• Servant
• Mercy

Goal:
-To understand these gifts and determine if I have these gifts?
1) Pray
2) Review

-Which gifts do we know?
-What are they for?
-Which do I see in myself?
-How do I minister with them?

Motivation:
We have looked at the obvious gifts that are clearly visible to others. But if I do not have these gifts, how is it possible to minister (serve) for the building up of the church? So, what gifts are we talking about today?

Gift of Helps
Definition
• Making things easier on people
• Helping the week and needy

How do they appear?
• see needs
• setting your own example (Paul)
• organizing others to help through the power of the Holy Spirit
• they are needed in leadership
• they minister with pleasure and ability
• they meet material needs of believers as well as spiritual, moral and time
• take on discomfort to make it easier for others

Example:
Jesus Christ
Paul
Holy Spirit

Warnings
• must not do everything for everybody
• must not work alone, but on a team

Gift of Service
Definition
• a servant in the church
• leader’s helper
• fulfilling a specific ministry (deacon)

How do they appear?
• not everyone has this
• frees up leaders of the church for ministry of the Word and prayer
• are chosen from among those in the church
• tested and proved
• filled with the Holy Spirit
• ordained
• serve those who serve the Lord

Example:
Angels
Mark
Timothy
Erastus
Epaphroditus
Onesimus
Onesiphorus (to Paul and the saints in prison)

Warnings:
• at first try and then start a ministry

Gift of Mercy
Definition
• an ability from God to be attentive, sympathetic, rejoicing with and working with someone
• sympathetic in practice

How do they appear?
• they understand people’s situation better than others
• a person who cries with the crying
• they don’t close their hearts to the needs of others
• they are afflicted with even stranger’s sorrows
• they seek out the weak, the sick and the least likely people
• good team players
• they open the doors for many organizations
• kindness
• sympathy and mercy in practice
• don’t have the ability to turn somebody away

Warnings
• guard against helping everyone to the detriment of your own family
• needs to be able to organize others and have your needs met within them as well


Result:
• will be forgiven
• peace will be in the church

The findings for each gift:
What is in common? –from God
You may not have this gift, but it appears incidentally.
If you do not have this gift, don’t get upset. Give others a chance to minister for you.
